Focusing on traditional ideas and techniques, students will develop the vital tools for creating skillful, luminous still-life paintings in oil. Students explore varied working methods through master copies, lectures, and group discussions on technical issues such as drawing and color theory while studying how past master artists handled such challenges. Focusing on composition and color, students learn to create thoughtful, interesting arrangements and examine the relationships between value, color, and intensity. Class discussions and instructor demonstrations help students build successful skills for independent work and proficiency in problem-solving strategies.
